The Prophet Playlist – Vol. 1

The music industry has been something that has escaped my articles since the inception of this blog.  Which is a shame because music may play a bigger role in my day to day than any movie, TV show or podcast ever has.  Half my nights are spent music hunting and looking for the up and coming artists and those beautiful tunes that go unnoticed on popular albums.  It’s been one of my dreams to create playlists for people based on their likes and dislikes but music streaming sites like Apple Music and Spotify have completely taken over that game with their fancy new algorithms that do it for you.  But sometimes those don’t suffice so I decided to create my own playlists for you based off my likes.  I’m always looking for new songs and artists to follow so let me know if you have any!

So a new segment I am introducing is the Prophet’s Playlist!  A set of songs that I am currently blasting and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Enjoy Vol. 1

London Grammar – Hell to the Liars

The British trio just released their third album title, Truth is a Beautiful Thing.  The group isn’t known for their huge record sales but they found their niche with a mesmerizing sound that creates itself around the powerful voice of the talented lead singer, Hannah Reid.  Highly recommend listening to their entire album, probably save it for a rainy day because it’s not super uplifting.

6LACK (Pronounced “BLACK”) – That Far

The Atlanta based rapper is clearly someone to watch as he continues to make a name for himself in a very competitive and talented industry.  After riding the coattails of The Weeknd during his tour, he looks poised and ready to take his career to another level.

Magic Giant – Set on Fire

Their genre can be put into a few categories but I think indie folk would be the one that fits this group the best.  Clearly talented and artistic, their brand new album, In the Wind, is full of upbeat songs like this one which can only put in a good mood. Definitely one of those bands that you’d appreciate after seeing them live.  Check em out!  And stay for the bridge, you won’t regret it.

Halsey – Lie (Quavo)

The electropop singer just released her second album which may take people by surprise.  Her songs are unforgiving, to the point, and a little angry which will always be appreciated.  Featuring Quavo, who seems to be in every song lately, the duet team up for a short yet powerful song.

Portugal.  The Man – So Young

The name of their band confuses me because this American Rock group is from Alaska but don’t take them lightly because their debut album promises to be something special.  Their first single, “Feel it Still,” currently plays constantly on alternative radio stations and gets your feet tapping but their second single puts you more in a chill mood.

Bleachers – Goodmorning

My new love.  This band shouts genuine artistry.  Heavily influenced by 80s pop, they bring a retro sound which is very refreshing and I recommend looking up their entire album because it’s full of awesome hits like this one.

Francis and the Lights – May I have this Dance (feat. Chance the Rapper)

This man somehow is able to get mixed in with some superstar names.  Touring with artists like Drake, Bon Iver, Kanye West, MGMT, Ke$ha, and Mark Ronson, Francis takes advantage of his amazing connections to create awesome collaborations like this one featuring the adorable Chance the Rapper.

A R I Z O N A – Are You

More than a one hit wonder, this band proves that their hit, “Oceans Away,” is not the only song you’ll have on repeat this summer.

Judah & the Lion – Suit and Jacket

The pride of Nashville started to top charts when miraculously they were invited to tour with alternative sensation Twenty-One Pilots.  Their ability to incorporate a variety of instruments creates a full sound which can only be fully embraced in front of a live audience but I guess we’ll settle with a recording for now. Since the tour, their popularity has been on the up and up and you can see why after watching this awesome video.

Dreaming Wild – Klahr & KEV

Honestly, I don’t know much about these DJ’s or the song but it’s an awesome collaboration that should definitely be played this summer while in your car and blasting with the windows down.

Greta Van Fleet – Black Smoke Rising

Since forming in 2012, the youngsters have brought back a sound not heard since the 70s.  They only have an EP which has been released and their big hit, “Highway Tune,” can be seen on many viral charts and playlists but personally this is my favorite from their newest EP.
